Single Vehicle Collision with Mailbox

On Friday, November 25th, 2022, the Hancock County Sheriff Department was notified of a single car collision at 10:06 a.m. CST and Deputy Aaron Emmick arrived on the scene at 10:19 a.m.

Derek A. Stone, of Lewisport, had collided with a mailbox at 710 Frank Luttrell Rd. in Lewisport, when he was traveling North, 2 miles East of the City of Lewisport. Stone stated he had dropped off the right side of the roadway and was unable to come back onto the roadway. He went across the driveway at 710 Frank Luttrell Rd. and struck a mailbox belonging to the owner of the property, Dennis R. Long.

The mailbox was destroyed and the vehicle traveled down the roadway where it came back to rest. Stone’s 2007 Silver Saturn Ion received moderate damage at the right, outside shoulder (at 1 o’ Clock). There was no suspected alcohol or drug use. The roadway was wet and the weather was cloudy. No First Aid and no tow was needed. The roadway was re-opened at 10:23 a.m.
