B-ball girls beat Breck County 37-17

Three girls scored in double figures and the HCMS 8th grade basketball team won 37-17 over Breckinridge County Tuesday at Harned.

Jordyn Waltrip was hot from the foul line in the first quarter, hitting 4 of 4 shots and scoring six points to lead Hancock County to a 10-2 advantage. Ansley House led the way in the second frame and the score was 16-8 at halftime.

Carolina Jones sank three field goals during the third period as the Lady Hornets pulled away to lead 29-10. HCMS won the final frame 9-7.

Jones led with 12 points, while Waltrip and House scored 10 each. Madyson Higdon had three, Sophia Newby two, and Preslee Meserve hit a free throw.

 

Seventh grade wins

The 7th grade Lady Hornets fought off a late charge to win 32-24 at Breck County Tuesday.

HCMS jumped out to a 9-4 lead in the first quarter. Jordyn Waltrip hit a 3-pointer in the second and the girls led 15-6 at halftime.

Hancock County dominated the third frame, winning 12-1. Breck trailed 27-7 then charged back to win the final period 17-5.

Waltrip led all scorers with 12 points. Madyson Higdon scored nine, Sophia Newby had eight, Preslee Meserve two, and Ansley Chappell hit a foul shot.
