Girls beat McLean, fall in All “A” Classic


The HCHS Lady Hornets varsity volleyball team knocked off McLean County during matches played at Calhoun last Thursday. It was a clean sweep for all three Hancock County teams on the night.

The varsity team has now won three of its last four matches under coach Bailey Weikel.

The varsity girls won in straight sets by scores of 25-16, 25-22 and 25-20.

Lauren Kellems had six kills, three blocks, one assist and one dig for HCHS. Ashlyn Madden had six kills, two blocks, one assist and one dig, Sydney Kennedy had four kills, one block, two assists and nine digs, Maddisen Peck had three kills, one block, 12 assists and five digs, Haylee Garrison had four kills and one block, Sydney Weatherholt had one kill, six assists and one dig, Brooke Toler had one kill, one assist and nine digs, Kennedy Desper had two kills, Katie Pritchard had three digs, Sophia Reed had one assist and one dig and Brianna Mooneyham had one kill.

All “A” Classic

The varsity girls fell to Whitesville Trinity in the All “A” region tournament Saturday. Trinity won by set scores of 25-18 and 25-12.

Kennedy had two kills, six digs and one ace, Reed had one assist and four digs, Kellems had four blocks, one dig and one ace, Desper had two blocks, Peck had one block, five digs and two aces, Garrison had one kill, two digs and two aces, Madden had five blocks and Weatherholt had two assists.


The Lady Hornets earned a victory on the road Tuesday when they defeated Cloverport 3-1.  Hancock County won by set scores of 25-13, 25-22, 23-25 and 25-15.

Kennedy had nine kills, one assist, six digs and four services aces for HCHS.  Garrison had seven kills, five digs and eight aces, Madden had six kills and two blocks,  Weatherholt had two kills, 14 assists, two digs and two aces,  Kellems had five kills, one assist, six digs and four aces, Peck had two kills, one block, nine assists, one dig and five aces, Toler had two kills, one assist, 15 digs and seven aces, Caroline Conner had four assists, Reed had four digs, Desper had one kill and one dig, Mooneyham and Sarah Huff had one kill each, and Addy Harrison had one assist.
