The HCHS Hornet golf team struggled a bit during a 4-team match at Ben Hawes in Owensboro Monday. Owensboro High School won with a score of 170. Owensboro Catholic shot 171, the Hornets finished third at 177 and Apollo was last at 197.
“It seemed as if everywhere we hit the ball it would bounce sideways instead of forward,” HCHS coach Dave Cowden said. “The boys also agreed that the greens were very hard and slow.”
Korbin Kruse had a solid round of 42 that included four pars. Conner Napier also shot 42 to share the team lead. Max Gray followed with a 45, and Jacob Shultz shot 48. Dec Lewko had a 51.
“One thing I think we should do these next two weeks is work on more distance with irons. Ben Hawes is a longer course than what we’re used to. Gibson Bay, in Richmond, where we will play the Class “A” is even longer,” Cowden said.
