Council passes amended budget

A light agenda greeted members of the Hawesville City Council at its regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday evening. The meeting at City Hall lasted 30 minutes. The two major items on the agenda were the second reading of an ordinance to amend the 20-21 budget, and the first reading of the 21-22 fiscal year budget.

The city received unanticipated government aid in the amount of $98,000, and needed to amend the budget to reflect this added revenue. The city also amended the budget to reflect unexpected increased expenses of $72,150.

Hawesville’s 2021-2022 proposed budget consists of five different funds: general Fund, Road Fund, LGEA Fund, Water/Sewer fund and the Cemetery Fund. Estimated revenues for all five funds totals $1,655,484. The expenses for these funds total $1,607,800, leaving the city a surplus of $47,684. Combined with carryover funds from previous years, estimated cash reserves for the city in the 2021-2022 budget total $816,276.47.
