Lily Roberts struck out 17 batters and Lauren Proctor had three hits when the Lady Hornets won 11-1 over McLean County in a semifinal game of the All “A” Classic regional tournament. The game was played at Edmonson County Monday. Hancock County will play Owensboro Catholic in the championship game at Brownsville Thursday at 6:00 pm.
“Lily had a heck of a game, and with that kind of performance your defense doesn’t have to work very hard,” HCHS coach Dwayne Wroe said. “Lily’s velocity was up and McLean was having trouble catching up.”
The Lady Hornets took a 2-0 lead against McLean when Proctor delivered a 2-run hit in the second inning. The varsity girls went ahead 6-0 in the fourth.
Emmalynn Higdon led off the fourth with a base hit and later scored on a hit by Haley Wigginton. Hancock County had two outs against them, but went on to plate three more runs in the frame.
The Lady Hornets closed out the game with a five run sixth inning. Braley Roberts, Hayley McFarling, Lily Roberts and Wigginton all recorded hits during the frame.
Lily Roberts got the win on the mound, allowing one run on three hits, with 17 Ks and one walk over six innings. Her strike out total is one shy of the HCHS record of 18 held by current assistant coach Taylor Wroe.
Proctor was 3 for 4 at the plate with two RBI, Wigginton was 2 for 3 with one RBI, Braley Roberts was 2 for 4 with a double and one RBI, McFarling was 2 for 4 with one RBI, Lily Roberts was 1 for 3 with one RBI, and Higdon was 1 for 4. Kylie Westerfield, Ella House, Jordan Cameron and Baylee Estes all scored one run.
Title game
The Lady Hornets have won the 3rd region All “A” tourney five years in a row and they’ll look to make it six in a row against Catholic tonight.
“This is the first year Catholic’s been in it and we’re looking forward to the challenge,” Wroe said. “We’ll be ready to play.”
Pulaski County
Pulaski County scored eight runs in the fourth inning on their way to a 15-5 win in six innings over the Lady Hornets on Friday at Elizabethtown.
Hancock County trailed 5-0 when they rallied in the top of the fourth inning. Ella Staples led off the frame with a double and Emmalynn Higdon later ripped a 2-run double. Brooke Toler followed with an RBI double and the Lady Hornets were back in the game, trailing 5-4.
Pulaski all but ended the game when they scored eight runs on six hits in the home half of the fourth. Hancock County got a run in the fifth when Staples doubled and scored on a hit by Lily Roberts before the Lady Maroons plated two in the sixth to win via the 10-run rule.

Lily Roberts allowed seven runs (five earned) on five hits, with one K and one walk in 1.1 innings of relief. Higdon allowed three runs on four hits, with one K and four walks in 1.2 innings.
