Semi jackknifes on U.S. 60
No one suffered injury when a semi jackknifed on U.S. 60 west of Lewisport on January 11. The accident happened at approximately 9 a.m. Hancock County Sheriff Dale Bozarth filed the accident report.
Jerry Denny of Paynesville, KY, told Bozarth that as he drove east on U.S. 60 he noticed a westbound vehicle start to turn left onto Bittel Road, and then stop in the middle of the highway.

Denny said he applied the brakes on his 2005 International semi to keep from hitting the vehicle. As he came closer to the stopped vehicle, it remained in the middle of the highway so he applied his brakes much harder, which caused the semi to jackknife.

The driver of the other vehicle said as she went to turn onto Bittel Road, she noticed it was closed, and was trying to decide what to do. The report says she looked up, saw the semi starting to jackknife, and gunned her vehicle to clear the roadway. No collision occurred between the semi and the other vehicle.
The semi sustained moderate damage. A wrecker from Butler’s Garage removed the semi.
