School cop wins praise from district, students

When Hancock County Public Schools announced the hiring of a sheriff’s deputy to walk the halls for this past school year, some decried it as an overreaction to school shootings elsewhere and questioned whether the schools would be more like prisons with an armed guard. Now one year later, the district says the officer has had a profoundly positive effect on overall safety and on individual students alike.
