Lewisport growth means tax rates could fall, revenues could still rise

Recent growth in the city of Lewisport has officials there facing the unfamiliar problem of rising property tax assessments affecting the tax rate, and what they can do to take advantage of the potential increased revenue.

In a lengthy discussion during Thursday night’s city council meeting county property valuation administrator Karen Robertson explained how rising values can lower tax rates, but warned that inaction on the city’s part can actually mean losing money despite an increase in taxpayers.
