Ga. judge rules baby body must be returned

By Dave Taylor

The fate of the exhumed body of an infant that became the center of a public fight between two parents after being brought to Hancock County for burial has been decided: the boy must be returned to Georgia and re-buried.

A judge in Charleton County, Georgia ruled last Wednesday that the body of Wesley Newton, which had been brought to the county by his father Steve Newton, must be returned to his original resting place in Georgia, from where he was taken without the written permission of his mother, Carin Manusuthakis. Questions remain, however, about how Newton was able to obtain an exhumation without proper permissions and whether officials in Georgia are also to blame.
