It’s been cold, but not ’77 cold

Subzero temperatures this week put a chill in the hearts of local residents, but 41 years ago the county was being overwhelmed by bitter cold and 10 inches of snow that all but shut down the whole area.

While there were some frozen pipes and ice on lakes this week, in 1977 the river was frozen to a thickness of five inches and the county suffered through days and days of wind chill factors dipping to 30 below.
