Robert M. “Bob” Payne, 67, of Lewisport, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, November 1, 2017. He was born on July 18, 1950 in Daviess County, the son of Joseph Arthur and Mary Delphine Wathen Payne. Bob was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church, worked at Domtar for 47 years and was Hancock County Electrical Inspector since 1991. Bob loved spending time with his grandchildren and family. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Payne and a brother, Gene Payne.
Bob was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving his country during the Vietnam War. He served on the Lewisport City Council, St. Columba Parrish Council, Immaculate Conception School Board, Knights of Columbus, Lewisport representative for the Green River Area Distribution and Development Committee. He was also a member of the V.F.W., Marine Corp League, American Legion and Rolling Thunder.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Charlotte Howard Payne; a daughter, Angie (Alan) Ditch; a son, Rob Payne; his mother, Mary Delphine Payne; grandchildren, Whitney, Logan, Gabe, Raley and Guy; siblings, Marvin Payne, James Mark Payne, Wanda Young, Mary Brandle, Becky Howard, Jody McManaway, Frank Payne, Wayne Payne, Judy Mingus and Lesia Stallings along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 am on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at St. Columba Catholic Church with burial following in Lewisport Cemetery with full military honors. Bob’s family will be greeting friends from 3:30 pm until 8 pm on Friday; prayer service will be held at 5 pm on Friday evening and from 8 am until 9:30 am on Saturday at Gibson & Son Funeral Home, Lewisport.
