Pat Gaynor: one of Hancock County’s WWII heroes

Steve Gaynor wasn’t born when his dad, Harold C. “Pat” Gaynor went off to war in 1945, but he recognizes the sacrifice his dad made, one that ultimately left him disabled and led to an early death for the well-liked local World War II hero.

Pat Gaynor was just 19 years old when he was drafted and joined the Marines, and just one year later he returned to Hancock County with a Purple Heart and a permanent limp.
