Mary Emogene "Fatty" Howard Basham, 85, of Owensboro, journeyed to the
Promise Land at Heartland Villa on July 11, 2008. She was born May 27, 1923
in Whitesville, KY, daughter of James and Myrtle Fuqua Howard. She was the
last remaining child of her family of seven children. She worked for Servel
in producing military aircrafts during WWII, and retired from General
Electric. She was a member of St. Stephens Cathedral in Owensboro. She was
preceded in death by a grandson, James Calvert Jr. on August 21, 1996. Like
the fragrance of spring she was God's gift to us all. Her philosophy can
best be summed up with the words she so often used "We should be grateful
for what we've got," and "That's the way the mop flops." She was a
sweetheart and her memory will be cherished by all who knew her.
Survivors include two children, Marilyn Gayle Simpson of Dracut, MA and
James Howard Calvert and wife Sandy of Hawesville; five grandchildren.
Services were Monday at Burns Funeral Home in Cloverport, KY, Burial was at
Cloverport Cemetery, next to her beloved husband, Louis R. Henderson, who
passed away in 1979. Online condolences may be left at www.burnsfh.com.
